Aquarium and Discovery center
This weekend we made it to the Aquarium and Children's Science museum (they also have an Imax but we didn't check it out yet) We started in the Aquarium. There were exhibits for the nocturnal desert animals, snakes, rodents, and birds. Then we got to the sea life. Wow! the tank with the sharks was a big hit!
After a quick lunch, we headed over to the "Discovery" area. The current exhibit focuses on health and energy. They also have a sand pit that is a big hit with the little ones.
An obstacle coarse set up to demonstrate the challenges of being in a wheelchair was pretty cool. I don't think it was as easy as some thought it would be. Included were gravel areas, ramps, turns and a door to go through.
Daddy and Cai found a hand-crank generator. There were plugs for different items and the challenge was to see what you could create enough electricity to run. They could get the radio and fans going, but some of the other things like TV, mixer, and head lights too a bit more effort.
Again, the sand pit was a big hit.
...a really big hit.
Some people spent a good chunk of the time there.
Sand is fun!
Jae had fun with the plasma generator.
This device reminded me of the game "Operation". You were to manuver the loop around the metal shape without letting it touch. It would buzz if the loop made contact. Quite challenging around the tight turns.
It is hard to see here, but under the plexiglass were two fans that could be aimed externally. Also inside was mounds of sand. By changing the direction of the wind you could see how sand dune are made, shaped, and changed. We like making fun swirl patterns.
Jae and Tek had a go at the hand-crank generators.
Here air guns were aimed at different types of wind turbines.
More plasma fun.
A chair lift powered by a vacuum.
..and we always have to make friends wherever we go!
