Camping at Flamingo

For our Valentine weekend we decided to head to the Everglades for a camping trip. So we packed up and went to Flamingo campground, way down south.

And look! We found a silver Twinkie!

After Setting up the tent and streaching out our legs, we headed out to collect firewood. The girls had a great time following Daddy into the treeline looking for and carrying it back to the car.

We even took a walk over to the marina and saw lots of sea birds. We even got a very brief glimps of a sea cow, but it wasn't in the mood to pose for any pictures.

That first night Daddy took the older two fishing at the marina but they didn't catch anything. That night the girls snuggled warmly in their sleeping bags while Mommy and Daddy tried to sleep under a couple wool blankets. "Try" being the key word. Around midnight Cai was getting fussy and Mommy gave up and took him to the van where they spent the rest of the night (turning the van on long enough to heat it up then off for about 3 hours when it got too cold again, then turning it back on). First thing in the morning Mommy and Daddy decided we needed warm sleeping bags too. So, we drove to town and bought a double wide bag, perfect for us to share.

Back at the campground we had lunch and Mommy laid down with the youngest two for quiet time, while Daddy took the oldre two for another try at fishing.

Later, we got the blood flowing by racing around some trees. It had been a while since Mommy had actually used her legs to run, but she did win every race that she didn't fall down in.

Dinner was "Stone soup" complete with a reading of the story. It was yummy. Cai ate about a bowl and a half himself.

The next morning, it was time to start packing up. While Mommy and Daddy worked, the girls played with Cai, and worked on their palm branch tent. They had a grand time putting it together. Daddy enjoyed working on it too.

We wraped up the trip with a little crocodile viewing and a sub-tropical nature trail walk.

We had so much fun, Jael asked if we could do this again for birthdays!
