What we have been up to lately...

A few weeks ago we were invited to a beach day at the Saudi Chevron compound. A nice clean beach, the water was perfect, a barbecue lunch, lots of sun. It was a great day.

I dug myself into a hole, and it got kinda deep. So I kept digging.

It wasn't easy to get everyone out of the water when it was time to go.

We also finally made it to the the Friday Market and had a great time looking around. I found this great candle older (I'm thinking for advent)

David found this copper plate to hang on the wall.

I found this great big copper pot. I've been wanting one like this for a while!

And the girls each found a dress for 1kd (about $3.55) each. However it was well over 100 and the copper was burning fingers just carrying it to the car, so we called it quits then and went home to cool off.

In science we have been studying the desert, so we thought we would make a desert dessert.

That is a "Sprinkle Nile" if you didn't recognize it.

Today we went to the KDD factory (Kuwaiti Danish Dairy)for a feild trip with part of the home school group.

After the tour, they passed out several treats for everyone to try.

They were about sugared out by the end of their third ice cream bar. We even heard one child say she had enough dessert to last her a week!

Mommy even got to try a dairy free "Water Ice" (or popsicle).

Se now wants to work in a factory building/fixing machines and Cai wants to go on field trips to other factories...like one that makes Kindles and cars and other "not food" places.

Sri Lankan Ministry

My name is Jael. I am ten years old and I live in Kuwait. When I grow up I want to have an orphanage in Sri Lanka. I read that there are lots of orphans there especially in the major cities. I was excited to learn that my church has a ministry that helps at the Sri Lankan embassy in Kuwait. There are around 300 women there. Many were maids or housekeepers that were treated so badly they ran away. In Sri Lanka, they think themselves as unimportant as you can be. The ministry gives them things to give them courage. Sometimes we, usually the children, get to go down to where the women live. They live in the embassy basement. They are very crowded inside and once there was a child that was two or three sitting on a thin mat. On our way to their kitchen we went through some hall ways. Women were sitting on the sides so we had to squeeze through. Their kitchen was pretty small. There was a stove, an oven, some cabinets, and a pantry. There were some women sitting at a table peeling vegetables while watching something on a small TV. Once we finished with tour we sang some songs. We sang ‘Jesus loves me,’ then all three verses of ‘Away in a manger’ We buy things like hard candy, shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, shirts, and I draw pictures. When we finish buying the things for them we put them in plastic bags. For an example: 1 bottle of shampoo, 1 bar of soap, 1 toothpaste, 1 toothbrush, about 17 hard candies, Once they are packed we carry them just inside the building. The women line up and we hand them out one bag for each person. Every time a woman takes a bag we say “Yesu swansin obida adery.” That is Sri Lankan for “Jesus loves you.” We also gave them about 27 bottles of hand soap and about 30 one gallon cans of milk powder. I enjoy helping them because it makes me feel good. It also helps me learn a little about Sri Lanka. I would like to raise more money for them because more women are coming all the time and I want to show them Jesus loves them too.
