Family Holiday (day 6)

We spent all morning doing a walking tour of Patan. We found a tour guide (or he found us) who gave us a lot of back ground on the temples and shrines in the area. He also took us to several shops and art schools. By the time we stopped for lunch, there were some very tired legs. We rested back at the house for a while and then, this afternoon, found a taxi to take us dinner and bakery a few miles away. First, a few pictures from around the house..

Family Holiday (day 5)

Nepal. Today was mostly travel. Taxi, plane, van. Today was also the first day of a big Hindu festival so after grabbing dinner at a Bed and Breakfast/restaurant, we walked down the street to see some dancers start their street dance. Now these tired and weary travelers are headed to bed. Tomorrow we will start our Nepali adventures. (Here are just a few shots of the house. We'll get more when it is light out and you can seem more.)

Family Holiday (day 4)

Today was a shopping day. In the morning we took the hotel bus to the mall. It was a small mall, but the kids and Daddy got some ice cream. Then in the afternoon we went to the local souq. We ended up buying some scarves and Omani outfits for each of the kids. The shop owner also gave each of us some bottled water and the kids each got their own vial of perfume (which are all now tucked away in a suitcase, wrapped, and separated so that they cannot make mommy's clothes smell). Now the bags are packed, kids tucked in bed, and we will be getting up early to head to the airport. Next stop: Kathmandu, Nepal.

Family Holiday (day 3)

Today we laid back. Little more time swimming and a trip to Bait Al Zubair Museum (royal family collection of Omani artifacts and art). The kids may be be getting rather high expectations of our trips. Cai asked if our next vacation could be on a rocket. He was a little disappointed when daddy said that wasn't a possibility, but he did like the idea that he could become an astronaut if he wanted. Later the discussion of a possible stand up comedian in the family was also held. The only concern Tekla had with this was the whole "public speaking" thing. This must be a trip for exploring career paths.

Family Holiday (day 2)

This morning, after breakfast, we went on a "Dolphin Cruise". We started out excited, but not everyone kept the excitement as the boat left dock. Skimming over the choppy waves was not a hit with Tek and Cai as each clung to the closest parent. Once we were a ways out, the captain slowed down and we were able watch several dolphins swimming and even a few jumped for us. Before heading back Cai and Mommy moved seats and he enjoyed the rest of the trip much more. Tek was just pleased when we were back on solid ground. Se on the other hand is now thinking a future career in search and rescue may be in order. After the cruise, we headed back to the hotel for lunch and some quiet time. Once people were rested, we hit the beach/pool/lazy river/horseback and camel riding for a couple hours. Dinner is not served till late here, so for the second night in a row Cai lasted just long enough to eat most of his meal before curling up in his chair and falling asleep. I think he just wanted to make sure Mommy got her weight lifting in for the day.

Family Holiday 2014 (day 1)

The 1:00 am wake up to match the 4:00 am flight was a bit tough. However, the bright colorful and cheery outfits Grandma sent us helped set the mood for a great start. Once on the plane there was a bit of sleeping, a bit of eating (airplane breakfast), a little bit of reading, then we were there. We took a couple taxis to the resort and there were no disappointed faces when we arrived. The hotel is situated between some old mountains and the Arabian Sea. Beach, pools, splash park, lazy river, more pools... We are not lacking for things to do. Now 4 very tired kids are in bed (one fell asleep at dinner and couldn't even be awaken for dessert) and 2 parents are soon o follow.
